Scanning an AI Blood Smear Analysis slide

Shannon Mitchell Updated by Shannon Mitchell

After preparing a blood smear slide and selecting the appropriate test or adding a new one, you can complete the patient history and scan the test sample. For more information, view Adding a test.

To scan an AI Blood Smear Analysis test:

  1. After adding an AI Blood Smear Analysis test to the Worklist, you can scan the test for analysis. Be sure to complete the patient history before scanning by checking that the red blood cell (RBC) count and the white blood cell (WBC) count are entered in the scan details from the automated complete blood count (CBC) report.

Important: Adding the RBC count ensures the polychromatophils are analyzed correctly.

Important: Automated total WBC counts are accurate and allow WBC differential counts to be applied to determine absolute counts.

  1. Select an available scanner, select Open tray, and place the blood smear slide on the tray.
  2. Select Preview to review and accept the suggested scan area, or create a custom scan area to reduce the scan time. Click Continue to scan the slide. For more information, view Scan area mask.
  3. Select Close, and Vetscan Imagyst will analyze the slide. While it is processing the slide, you will see the following statuses appear to the right of the scanned test sample:

Analyzing: Vetscan Imagyst is currently analyzing the slide.

Error: An error occurred while scanning or analyzing the slide. You should rescan the slide. If the error persists, contact technical support.

Review: An orange Review button indicates that Vetscan Imagyst has completed the analysis and generated a report for your review.

Reviewed: Someone has clicked on the Finalized icon in the Assessment drawer. Clicking this icon changes a scan’s status from Review to Reviewed.

When a test sample has the Reviewed status, the test is complete.

Important: If a test is incomplete or unsubmitted, it will have the “Incomplete test order” status in the Worklist.  Select Open to complete the test and submit it.
