Riley Cole Updated by Riley Cole

If your clinic’s PIMS is connected to VETSCAN IMAGYST via a FUSE, any new test orders created within the PIMS automatically appear within the VETSCAN IMAGYST application. Find your test order and click the blue SCAN button to complete the Blood Smear test.

If your clinic is not connected to VETSCAN IMAGYST, you can create a blood smear test order manually.

To manually create a test:

  1. Click on the Main Menu ().
  2. Click on the Inbox link.
  3. Click on the Add Test icon () next to the Inbox title.
  4. When the Add Test window opens:
    1. From the Test Type dropdown, choose “AI Blood Smear” .
    2. Enter the Patient ID .
    3. Enter the Name of the animal (Optional) .
    4. Choose which Species.
  5. Click on the blue Create button.
  6. Enter the RBC count from the CBC report to complete the Patient History.

IMPORTANT: Adding the RBC count ensures the polychromatophils are analyzed correctly.
  7. Choose a scanner and add a scan by following the scanning process described on the Order Entry Scanning page.
  8. Review the suggested scan area and then click the blue CONTINUE button to scan the slide. For more information, see the Scan Area Mask page.
  9. Click the SUBMIT ORDER button when you are ready to submit the test.

After submitting the Blood Smear test, it will be analyzed by VETSCAN IMAGYST. While it is processing the slide, you will see the following statuses appear to the right of the test sample you scanned:

  • Analyzing: The slide is currently being analyzed by VETSCAN IMAGYST.
  • Error: An error occurred while scanning or analyzing the slide. You should rescan the slide. If the error persists, contact technical support.
  • Review: An orange REVIEW button indicates that VETSCAN IMAGYST has completed the analysis and generated a report for your review.
  • Reviewed: Someone has clicked on the Finalized icon in the Assessment panel. Clicking on this icon changes a scan’s status from Review to Reviewed.

When a test sample has the Reviewed status, the test is complete.

IMPORTANT: If a test is incomplete or unsubmitted, it will have the Incomplete Test Order status in the Inbox. Select OPEN to complete the order.
